Party planners at the University of Louisville’s Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium are hoping Comet ISON will be their guest of honor at a Dec. 7 holiday party.

The University of Louisville has made the cut in a national ranking of the Best Colleges for Veterans.

The University of Louisville Bingham Clinic is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The clinic’s precursor, which was founded by the Jefferson County school system, was among the first centers in the nation dedicated to children’s mental health.

Campus activities don’t stop at the University of Louisville with the end of classes this December. Seasonal music, dance and gift buying are all in store for the public and campus community, starting Dec. 6.

The University of Louisville Board of Trustees Nov. 21 named its newest research building in honor of Kosair Charities in recognition of its years’ long support in helping the university strive to fulfill its mandate as a nationally recognized metropolitan research university. The facility, on the health sciences campus at the corner of Hancock and Muhammad Ali, will hereby be known as the Kosair Charities Clinical and Translational Research Building.

Swiss chemist Michael Graetzel, noted for his discovery of a new solar cell that’s easier and less costly to produce than silicon-based cells, has won the first $50,000 Leigh Ann Conn Prize for Renewable Energy from the University of Louisville.

President James Ramsey honored 11 staff members Nov. 18 for their hard work, dedication to students and the university, leadership and public service at the annual Outstanding Performance Award reception. Three people received honorable mentions.

Roberto Bolli has won the American Heart Association Research Achievement Award for 2013 “for the profound and lasting impact of his extraordinary contributions to cardiovascular research.”

The University of Louisville’s efforts to create a better environment for bicyclists on campus have not gone unnoticed.

He spoke about the virtues of the University of Louisville to more than 2,200 high school students, taught a college-level economics class and caught up with alumni, school administrators and high-ability students at a half dozen receptions and luncheons — all of this was just part of President James Ramsey’s Fall Outreach.
